There are some informations about the IUM that are unclear for students and parents.
Here are the current questions that you may ask to yourself :
My level in English is poor, wouldn't I be lost in class ?
Your level should not be perfect to integrate the IUM. You need to have passed the TOEIC or an equivalent in order to enter the school or to pass it during the year. IUM proposes summer courses to improve in the language. Moreover, many students and especially French students who had not a good level in English and even had a catastrophic grade at the English part of the baccalaureat felt this fear before coming at the IUM. But the environment in which you will be, will help you to overcome your weaknesses. Indeed, the lessons in class are very understandable. Also there are many nationalities and you will be obliged to speak english outside the class which will allow you to practice considerably. We are not better than you and when you want you can ! Like everywhere you have to be motivated and to study in order to succeed.
If the school is located in Monaco, that means that the diploma is not recognized in France ?
You need to know that to be recognized in France, the classes should be taught at 70% in French, which is not the case at the IUM where every class is in English. That does not mean that you won't find a work in France it has nothing to do with it. The diploma will just not allow you to present the administrative exams in France.
I do not live in Monaco, where can I find an accomodation ?
It is really easy to find an accomodation in Monaco. If you want cheapest accomodations there are a lot of opportunities in close cities like Beausoleil, Cap d'Ail for a reasonnable price... The IUM will help you to find something at your convenience. If you live more far in Nice or Cannes for example, you can take the train as many students do and subscribe with special student prices designed by the SNCF. It will take you 20 minutes from Nice to Monaco.
What are ''credits'' ?
For each class you take you have a certain number of credits from 1 to 3. To get your diploma, you need to have a certain amount of credits, 120 precisely.
What is the difference of the American system with the French system ?
Apart credits that you do not find in the French system, there is the system of grading which also differs. In France you are usually graded over 10 or 20. In the American system you are graded over 100 % corresponding to letters from A to F. Here are the equivalents :
A = 95-100
A- = 90-94
B+ = 87-89
B = 83-86
B- = 80-82
C+ = 77-79
C = 73-76
C- = 70-72
D+ = 67-69
D = 63-66
D- = 60-62
F = 0-59
Also the level you get in 3 years is not the same as in France. Indeed, the advantage of the IUM is that it follows an American program. In 3 years you will have the equivalent of 4 years of studies in France(if you choose option 3 cf program article), meaning that you will end up with a Licence 3 and Master 1 level. A real time saving !
What can I do after the 3 years ?
After the BSBA which is the post-bac programm in 3 years, you will have a Master 1 as said before. You can choose to do one of the masters proposed at the IUM in 10 months, which is also an accelerated programm. You can also do a master anywhere you want in the world.
